FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE DERM EFFECT

our story:
A homage

We were founded in 2019 when Mena wanted to create a more intimate medspa that was very simple, minimalistic, and created natural results. This strategy worked much better than anticipated and the demand to come to our medspa has grown beyond our dreams. In 2024 we renamed the medspa after Mena’s grandmother Mahtab.

When Mena was little she was very close to her grandmother and they spent a lot of time together. Mena's grandmother lived a life of tranquility, where she grew her own mint, had a lemon tree, and enjoyed a slower pace of life.

She had a morning routine where she would go outside and stretch and self massage. When there was leftover rice she would hold out the paper plate and the birds would fly down to eat it right then and there. She was magical to Mena.

In her younger years she was very accomplished and was the first woman in Kabul, Afghanistan to own a business. She owned and operated a  tailor shop where she taught other women how to sew.

Her grandmother's self-care routines and her love for homemade bread and pickled foods had a profound effect on Mena. She was Mena's friend and confidant, and they shared a special bond where Mena would braid her grandmother's hair after dinner and tie bows in it.

Her grandmother's lifestyle was slow, wise, and gentle, and she had a unique way of being. She would use traditional beauty products like kohl for eyeliner. One morning when Mena was still a little girl, she went to waken her grandmother who had already left this world.

Mena treasures the memories of her beloved grandmother and this medspa honors her by incorporating her essence of hosting our patients and guests. Bows are a reminder of the times she played with her grandmother’s hair.

We appreciate you for being with us on this journey of beauty, life, and growth. Our aim is to focus on integrating your inner and outer beauty in homage to the way she lived her life. Cheers to all the women who have inspired us to be more, and do better, and to the women we will inspire with our own lives.
